The Story So Far …
Daniel Kaszor’s birth coincided with the construction of the world’s largest mall across the street. He does not think this is a coincidence.
After eighteen years in white suburbia he went to the University of Alberta in Edmonton and began a degree in Film and Media Studies. While he was there, he accidentally stumbled into a story meeting at the school paper, the Gateway, while looking to do movie reviews. It was there that he found his calling.
That was because he became addicted to writing, and his time at the paper began to dominate his life. After a year of volunteering he got a job as the paper’s circulation manager, and followed that up with a stint for two years as the design and production editor and then a year as the editor-in-chief. Over his five years at the paper Daniel wrote over 350 articles ranging from hard news to comedic ephemera.
During this time he also started doing freelance writing for the Edmonton alt-weekly SEE magazine and writing regularly on the web.
After completing his degree and his tenure at the Gateway, Daniel travelled extensively in the United States (including sneaking into the Electronic Entertainment Expo in LA) and wrote a novel during the 2006 National Novel Writing Month. He also decided that he needed to move out of Edmonton and to a larger city as a means of broadening his world view and his career prospects.
So in May 2007 he moved to Toronto and in September 2007 began course work in the Ryerson University Master of Journalism program.
